Barcelona Overview

Last meeting, we discussed our time in the fantastic city of Barcelona, Spain! The city contains some of the most renowned art throughout the world, as well as amazing night life and culture. The city is well known for the art and architecture from the renowned Antoni Gaudi. Pictured below are a few of his works. Well known for his ability to make his work somehow defy gravity and the basic design elements, the odd factors of his art are quite interesting. One of his most famous works, La Sagrada Familia, is still under construction to this very day.

Our center point in Barcelona will be la Plaza Catalunya, which is pictured below.

Only two more weeks!!! Almost there, everyone!

Review of the 5/7 Meeting and Paris

Hello Ladies!

In the last meeting on May 7, 2014 (Wednesday), Ms. Jeffries talked about all things relating to France. In the photo above is a map of Paris. We learned that Paris is separated into 20 arrondissements.

We also talked about Versailles, one of the excursions that most of you are going to. We watched a funny video from the movie, Marie Antoinette (if you haven't seen it, you really should), that highlights all the elaborate things about Versailles. Above are some photos.

Research any attractions, restaurants, cafes, places to shop, etc. in any one of these arrondissements, and leave a comment below (scroll to the bottom of this post and click either "no comments" or "(#) comments") about what you found. Also, remember to leave a comment on the previous post on Madrid about one thing you want to see while we are there.

Here are a few more announcements that we went over in the meeting:

  • The next parent meeting is May 28 (Wednesday).
    • remember your money ($110 in all) for the tour guide. bring it at this meeting.
  • If you haven't gotten your EF tours backpack, visit Mrs. Melandri!
Guys, we are leaving a month from this Sunday! Whaaaaat.... Who's excited?

Bon Voyages,

Cate

Summary of April 23rd's Mercy Ambassador Meeting

On April 23rd, the Mercy Ambassadors met to discuss some important details of the trip. To begin, we looked over the official flight schedule for our trip. On Wednesday, June 11th, we will depart from Little Rock at 1:33 p.m. and from Chicago at 6:20 p.m. We will arrive in Paris at 9:25 a.m. on Thursday, June 12th! On Sunday, June 22nd, we will depart from Spain at 9:35 a.m., leave Newark at 3:39 p.m., Chicago at 8:05 p.m., and arrive back in Little Rock at 9:52 p.m. No worries, a more detailed trip itinerary will be posted later! It is incredibly important for everyone to pack a change of clothes and necessary toiletries in their carry-on should their luggage be lost. After all, there is no experience quite like wearing dirty clothes and feeling gross while abroad! We then discussed a few safety details of the trip. While sight seeing, everyone will partner up so that no one is lost. The curfew every night will be that every girl must be heading to their rooms by 10:30 p.m. and in their rooms at 11:00 p.m. Finally, we talked about the city of Madrid, and all of the exciting features of the city!

Puerta de Sol, madrid
Puerta de Sol, seen above, will be our center point in Madrid. Because we are walking most places, it is definitely helpful that Madrid is a rather compact city! While in Madrid, we will be able to try a variety of foods, see artwork from artists such as Picasso, Goya and Velazquez, as well as experience "la movida", or the night life. While culture shock (pick-pocketing, different showers, and loud people... oh my!) may be a little startling at first, the experience is well worth it. Pictured below is the amazing we get the opportunity to see!

Madrid, Spain. One of the best years of my life was spent there, and it will always hold my heart.
